LEATHER + WOOD SHELF TUTORIAL
Anyone else a fan of leather + wood pieces?? We have been eyeing the combination for a very long time and have loved incorporating them into several projects this past year.
We love the uniqueness leather straps add to furniture. We love how modern it can make a piece feel AND we love how easy this style of shelf was to make and install!
Installed this shelf in our Happy Hollow Project last year and excited to share how we made it with you.
The whole process was super simple, basically just consisting of shelving board and leather straps. Excited to break down the whole process and teach you how to make one yourself!
Compound Miter Saw*
*if you don't own a saw, most home improvement stores will cut boards for you!
1/2" Drill Bit
Leather cutting tool or x-acto knife
DIMENSIONS: Finished shelf
Please read through the entire plan before beginning this project. Take all necessary precautions to build safely and smartly. Wear safety glasses always and work on a clean level surface, free of imperfections or debris. Always use straight boards. Check for square after each step. Always pre-drill holes before attaching with screws.
Work safely, enjoy, and ask for assistance if you need it. Good luck!
BUILDING THE SHELVES
Cut boards to desired length
Cut leather to length (36")
*if you purchased the 72" strip, simply cut in half
Find the center of your leather strip by marking 1" in from the side and 1" from the top
Fold leather strip in half and clamp
and using your drill, drill hole through your mark
Repeat for second strip
Mark where your straps are going to go on the wall and anchor through both sides of the strap to wall
Repeat for second strap
Style as you wish and enjoy your new leather and wood shelf!!
These are fun for both adult and kid spaces and can also be customized in length!
